Great day!!

I just knew it would be a good day today...

When Evan woke up this morning, we snuggled and rocked for a few minutes like we usually do. I get my best snuggles right when he wakes up either first thing in the morning or after nap- kinda backwards rocking after waking up instead of before going to sleep, but whatever works. ;)  A little back story- the past couple nights Evan has suddenly started to fuss and cry when going to bed.  He has NEVER done this before, ever!!  So of course the mama guilt kicked in... I picked him back up and rocked a little as we read a couple stories and then I put him back to bed.  He was fine after that, so this is becoming our new routine.  When he woke up this morning, as we rocked he signed "read"!  This is the first time I've seen him sign that word, and while signing the word itself is not that significant for him since he can sign over 100 words now- but that he was using it in context to request is HUGE!!  Even though he can sign 100 words- he uses them as labels for things- you say a word and he signs it.  He doesn't use them in conversation, and really only signs "eat" "more" or "all done" in context- not on request.  Oh, and how could I forget "Baby Signing Time" (which he signs as "baby" and "time") and "Wiggles"!  I was so proud of him requesting to read! And of course I immediately picked up a book. :)

Communication is my biggest concern with Evan since he really has no oral language yet.  He used to babble dadadada and say dadada when he saw Mike, but then stopped.  He had a few other little babbles or words he would say, but the more signs he learned, the less talking.  I have heard him say "mamama" a couple times in the past day or so, so that has been encouraging.  I have faith it will come once he starts school this fall.

And the next awesome news:

If you've been following my adoption blog, you have read about the online auction I've been fervently putting together to raise funds for the Warm Shelter baby house in Pskov, Russia.  I really was dreaming when I hoped we would get 50 items listed to auction off... well today we are up to 47!!  Holy cow!!  HUGE thanks to everyone who has donated items!! I will post the link to the auction once it is live- it is on Facebook and you will simply place your bids on items by making a comment on the particular photo.  More specifics will be given once it starts.  There are SO many amazing things- I am wishing I could bid on things myself!!  Be sure to keep your eye out for the link so you can check it out! :)

I'd leave you with a cute photo or two of any of the kids, but photobucket is down for maintenance. :( Boo.  Happy Hump Day everyone!!

Musical Theater Camp 2012

Kaylin participated in her last musical theater camp through the schools as it is only offered to students who completed 1st through 3rd grade.  They met for 9 days, 2 hours a day and learned 8 songs!!  Kaylin had a little solo in one of the songs, and she totally comes to life on stage. :)  In most the group songs you can hear Kaylin singing over everyone else since she is quite confident and knows how to project her voice. ;) This year's musical was titled "Harmony High"- a spin off of High School Musical.  These are the 5 songs Kaylin participated in. I was a bit miffed that the microphones weren't functioning properly for the solos.  Ah well, this isn't Broadway. ;) Enjoy!

This next one has her solo- pay attention!! ;) Kaylin is one of the cafeteria cooks.

Lina's first Independence Day!

Yea, I was way too tired last night to post these pics in time, so in case you didn't get enough July 4th festivities, you can share some more with us! :)  Independence Day meant a bit more to us this year having Lina home with us.  Let Freedom RING!!

Yea, catching all four kids looking and smiling at the camera is quite a challenge! We're having family portraits taken in a few weeks with a practice round next week for our church directory- we could use some good vibes if you have any to spare! ;)  We have yet to get a family photo of any kind with all 6 of us, so I'm super excited!!

We played outside for an hour tops yesterday morning until the heat just got too unbearable.  This heat wave has been intense!

Justin making a funny face- I told him to tickle Lina to get her to smile-we're still working on the whole *smile for the camera* thing. :)

Came inside after the heat got to us... but never too hot for some Lina lovin's!

Evan was super crabby when we came in so I took his shirt and shorts off- he was sporting just his onesie.... Well it didn't take Lina long to scoop up his shedded clothes and put them on her babydoll!

After the littles got tucked into bed for the night, I took the big kids out to see fireworks.  Making a note to leave earlier than 8:30 next year- all the roads were already closed down and we had quite a walk to get to a good viewing area!

Kids with their glow wands, waiting for the show to start!

And a few of the fireworks ;) Not bad for my lil point and shoot camera!  One of these years I'll get myself a decent SLR!

Happy Birthday, America!!
